How We Found the Messianic Congregation God Was Leading Us To

Looking for the Right Fit

We were going through the Starting Point class, and even though my husband and I believed God was leading us toward a Messianic congregation, I started looking at churches nearby. The one we had been attending was about 30 minutes away, and I found one just five minutes from home. I thought, Why not try it?

I started attending their Bible studies here and there, and my husband came with me a couple of times. The people were kind and loved God, but it wasn’t the right fit for us. Over the two months that we were facilitating Starting Point, I visited a few other churches, but none felt like home.

As we got closer to the end of Starting Point, my husband looked up Messianic congregations in our area. Two came up. One of them, it turned out, was the same one our friend had invited us to years earlier, though we didn’t realize it at the time because they had since moved closer to our home.

Peace in the Right Place

He visited, and when he came back, he said he felt a deep peace and sensed he was simply supposed to be there. Still, he decided to visit the second congregation, just to be sure. While he was there, he sensed the Lord saying clearly:

“What are you doing here? I already told you where I want you to go.”

This was how he experienced that moment of personal discernment. For both of us, the peace that followed helped confirm the direction we believed God was giving our family.

Our What, When, and Where

That was it. We had our what, our when, and now, finally, our where. Starting Point ended, and our pastors blessed us and prayed over our next steps. We remained grateful for the people who had walked with us, even as we recognized that our season at that church had come to a close.

But stepping into something new—especially something unfamiliar—wasn’t as simple as just showing up.

What would it really mean to walk into a Messianic congregation for the first time?
